Sounds Of Glory – Volume 3
VOLUME THREE! MORE PUNK! MORE SKA! ALL STRICTLY ROOTST
his book chronicles the energy and vitality of the punk rock explosion – the doors it opened, the stars it created, the chaos it caused. After 1976, punk made space for more new scenes, Ska, New Mod, New Wave, streetpunk etc. It was an inferno of raw talent as incendiary as it was inspirational, created and performed by both geniuses and lunatics, socialists and nihilists, posh boys and guttersnipes.

For a brief few years, power passed from the record companies back to the streets.
At the heart of this rock’n’roll revolution was SOUNDS magazine. And at the heart of SOUNDS was your narrator, Garry Bushell. Like his idols, Garry lived every day like it was his last. Which it nearly was at a time when football hooligans fought pitched battles at gigs, the Stranglers kidnapped journalists, MI5 snooped on bands, punks and skins stood shoulder to shoulder on demos and Wattie was running riot across Europe.
From the Sex Pistols and Ian Dury to Pauline Black and the Purple Hearts via the Buzzcocks, Poly Styrene and many more, these were truly days of glory. Sounds of Glory volume three takes up the baton from volume two, the Punk & Ska Years. It’s a unique record of thrilling bands, giant characters and radical ideas. Funny, insightful and powered by truth.
